Steve Woolven - President

Steve Woolven is President of Applanix Corporation. As a senior executive he has extensive leadership and management skills in the areas of product business development, marketing, sales and support, and research and development. His technical expertise covers a wide range of disciplines including inertial sensor/GPS technology, signal and image processing, sensors, and system design. He is a published author on a variety of technical topics including Aided Inertial Navigation Systems for Submersible Vehicles, and System Performance with Tightly-Coupled Inertial/RTK GPS Integration.

Steve holds the following academic qualifications:

  • B.A.Sc. Division of Engineering Science, Electrical Option, University of Toronto
  • M.A.Sc., Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Toronto
  • PhD, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Toronto.He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the Institute of Navigation (ION).
Blake Reid - Executive Vice President

Blake Reid

Blake Reid is a co-founder and the Executive Vice President of Applanix. He has over 30 years experience in high-tech business operations. As former Director with the Advanced Technology Centre Honeywell, Ltd., his broad-based technical experience covers systems control, estimation methods, inertial navigation/GPS integration, and motion compensation methodologies.
Blake is a registered Professional Engineer, holding a B.A.Sc., Electrical Engineering, University of Toronto, and a Ph.D., Control Engineering, University of Cambridge.

Erik Lithopolous - Vice President Business Development

Erik Lithopoulos - VP Business Development

Erik Lithopoulos is a co-founder and Vice President of Business Development at Applanix Corporation. His focus is the potential use of integrated inertial technology for a wide variety of commercial and non-commercial applications. He has been responsible for developing new business since 1994. Since 2003 he has been concentrating his efforts in the defence markets.

Bruno Scherzinger - CTO and VP Advanced Technology

Bruno Scherzinger is the Chief Technology Officer at Applanix Corporation, where he is responsible for advanced navigation technology development, and the core navigation technology behind the Applanix product line of position and orientation systems. Prior to Applanix Corporation, Bruno was with Honeywell Canada’s Advanced Technology Centre, where he worked on military navigation systems development. He obtained his B.Eng. degree from McGill University in 1977, followed by M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in System Control Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1979 and 1983 respectively. Bruno has more than 15 years experience in GPS-INS integrated navigation systems technology, and has been a member of ION for 8 years and a member of the IEEE for 26 years. He currently is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Calgary’s Geometics Engineering Department, to which he was first appointed in 2001.

Peter Teixeira - Director of Finance & Administration

Peter Teixeira is the Director of Finance and Administration, and is responsible for all financial, administrative and contractual functions within the Company. His senior financial expertise with biotechnology and software-based organizations, has given Peter an acute perspective on the business needs of companies operating in the high-tech sector, and as such, brings a valuable business dimension to Applanix. Peter holds an MBA from York University, a BComm from the University of Toronto, and has specialized in the area of entrepreneurial studies. He obtained his CA while articling with Coopers & Lybrand, and his corporate-level financial management expertise through previous appointments with Keycorp Limited and The Molson Companies.

Joe Hutton - Director, Airborne Products

Joe Hutton is the Director for Airborne Products at Applanix Corporation, where he is responsible for new business development and overall product direction for the airborne business.Joe has been with Applanix since 1991. He obtained his B.A.Sc degree in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto in 1989, followed by a M.A.Sc. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies in 1991. Joe has over 18 years experience in GPS-INS integrated navigation systems technology and its application to mobile mapping and surveying. He is a member of ION and is a licensed professional engineer in the Province of Ontario.

Louis Nastro - Director, Land Products

Louis Nastro is the Director for Land Products at Applanix Corporation, where he is responsible for new business development and overall product direction for the Land business.  Louis Nastro joined Applanix in 2005. He earned his B.A. (Hons) from York University, M.A. in International Relations and Economics from McMaster University, and an M.Sc from the Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, University of North Dakota. Prior to joining Applanix Mr. Nastro served as Director of Strategic Planning for Vantage Consulting, an international business consulting company, from 2000 to 2005.

Peter Stewart - Director, Marine Products

Peter Stewart is Director of Marine products at Applanix, responsible for the development and implementation of business strategy for the company’s marine products and solutions, as well as for product development activities. Peter holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Topographic Science from the University of Glasgow, as well as a M.Sc.E. in Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering from the University of New Brunswick. He has worked for Applanix since 2000 in a variety of technical and commercial roles within the Marine segment. Prior to joining Applanix, Peter worked at the University of New Brunswick as a Research Associate and as GPS Systems Engineer for Concept Systems Ltd in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Adam Evans - Product Manager, Trimble Digital Sensor System (DSS)

Adam Evans is Product Manager for Trimble's DSS (Digital Sensor System), a high-efficiency solution for aerial imaging.  Adam’s focus is on business development and overall product direction.

With a degree in Geomatics and Remote Sensing from the University of Waterloo and over 10 years in the field, Adam brings a wealth of experience to developing product lines and building business development strategies. Prior to joining Applanix, Adam served in several management roles with PCI Geomatics, including Product Marketing, Training, and Sales.  Adam joined Applanix in 2008.

Kevin Andrews - Product Manager, Land Products

Kevin Andrews is Product Manager for Land Products, responsible for new product development and product lifecycle management for POS LV including the coordination of Sales, Marketing, Support and Engineering.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Science in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary, where he focussed on remote sensing and low-cost GPS-aided Inertial Navigation.  He and has been with Applanix since 2000 serving clients in varied support, engineering, and business roles.

Eric Liberty - Director, Sales

Eric Liberty is the Director of Sales at Applanix Corporation, responsible for leading our sales team in providing exceptional business-to-customer communication and sales services. Furthermore Eric is responsible for the overall strategic sales plan for Mobile Mapping and Positioning Solutions.Eric holds an MBA from the University of Toronto. Eric Liberty joined Applanix in October 2006 as DSS Product Manager. Prior to joining Applanix, Eric had worked with Optech managing sales activity for airborne and land lidar systems.

Michelle Papanikolov - Director, Human Resources

Michelle Papanikolov joined Applanix Corporation in April 2003 as Director, Human Resources. Prior to Applanix Michelle was the Director of Human Resources for an international direct sales organization. She holds an Honors B.A. from York University and a CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation. Michelle has over 20 years of progressive human resources experience in direct sales, high tech, advertising and food industries.
