Applanix Airborne User Group Meeting and Conference
September 12 - 15 | Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel | Toronto, Canada
About
Applanix is pleased to invite you to its upcoming 2016 Airborne User Group Meeting and Conference. This meeting is designed with five main objectives in mind:
Speakers
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Timothy Barfoot
Experience is the Best Teacher: Using Past Performance to Continually Improve Localization, Terrain Assessment, and Path Tracking for Visual Route Following
Dr. Barfoot is a Professor at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies and holds the Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Autonomous Space Robotics. He works in the area of guidance, navigation, and control of mobile robots in a variety of applications. He is interested in developing methods to allow mobile robots to operate over long periods of time in large-scale, unstructured, three-dimensional environments, using rich onboard sensing (e.g., cameras and laser rangefinders) and computation.
We are delighted to have him on stage and are looking forward to hearing him speak about his work using the latest approach in vision-only, route-following techniques for mobile robots, called Visual Teach & Repeat (VT&R 2.0). Using this method an autonomous robot can leverage past route-driving experience to not only to improve visual localization, but also to improve the ability to detect obstacles visually in difficult scenarios (e.g., tall grass), and even track paths more accurately and more quickly over time. He will present field test results using a 1000 kg Grizzly mobile robot in a variety of outdoor, off-road scenarios.
