January 31, 2008 Applanix Launches LANDMark Mobile Mapping Solutions
RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO – Applanix introduced today its LANDMark™ mobile mapping system. The LANDMark is a commercial off-the-shelf solution which can be customized for a wide range of mapping applications. Designed to be modular, scalable and flexible, the system offers users unparalleled data acquisition and processing capabilities which can address the unique requirements of Geographic Information System (GIS) professionals required to manage aging and complex transportation infrastructure.
The Applanix LANDMark system integrates a number of video cameras and optional LIDAR sensors that provide operators the ability to collect high-resolution data of assets, pavement, bridges and other points of interest all within a single pass from land and marine platforms. At the heart of the system is the POS LV position and orientation system that provides reliable and repeatable data essential for georeferencing the sensor data. LANDMark also comes with a rack mount system complete with onboard processing computer, displays, POSView controller, GEOImage RT real time operator control software, POSPac Land Post Processing software and GEOImage asset visualization and analysis package. The LANDMark system is available in two basic configurations. The first is a manual feature extraction system that allows operators through the GEOImage software to utilize the georeferenced imagery and manually measure points of interest and construct a customized database of feature attributes. With an optional LIDAR sensor, the second configuration of the system blends imagery and point cloud data to automatically classify and provide dimensions of asset data providing an increase in operator productivity and mobile mapping crew utilization rates. The system can be configured for various other missions including as built infrastructure mapping, bridge analysis and inventory and trackside asset mapping. "Today’s launch of the LANDMark system is the result of market research we have conducted worldwide to truly understand the unique requirements of customers who need more efficient ways of mapping streetside and trackside data," said Louis Nastro, Director of Land Products for Applanix. "For years service providers have been asking for a solution which takes the burden of engineering and support off of them and allows them to concentrate on what they do best and that is selling services to their end users. The LANDMark system allows GIS professionals to utilize a fully commercial off-the-shelf system customized for their specific use that is supported by Applanix worldwide which can result in lower downtime, higher productivity and an outstanding return on investment."
