January 10, 2005 Applanix Launches its POS LV 200 System at TRB in Washington
RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO – Applanix announced today the launch of its POS LV 200 system (Position and Orientation System for Land Vehicles), at the 84th Annual TRB (Transportation Research Board) Meeting in Washington, January 9-13, 2005.
Dave Morrison, Director of Land Products at Applanix commented, "We are very pleased to be launching POS LV 200 at this year’s TRB meeting. Being one of the industry’s premier conferences, it will allow the transportation community to take a close look at our latest position and orientation system, and see the benefits of the technology first-hand." Based on Applanix' proven integrated inertial technology, POS LV 200 is intended for organizations whose survey vehicles already incorporate GPS and DMI (Distance Measurement Indicator) sensors. These users can now very cost-effectively upgrade to tightly-coupled inertial technology and virtually eliminate the problems associated with limited GPS availability. POS LV 200 is designed to provide uninterrupted positioning and orientation information in areas where GPS reception is compromised, or unavailable. "The tightly-coupled POS LV 200 will not only maintain positioning during periods of GPS signal loss," Dave Morrison explained, "but it will also operate effectively when less than four satellites are in view, such as when being used in a downtown core when most satellites are obscured by tall buildings." The system is designed for easy integration with existing Trimble GPS equipment, and engineered for a wide variety of land vehicle applications, such as road profiling, pavement analysis, mobile mapping, and infrastructure asset management. A series of presentations showcasing the POS LV 200 were scheduled at the show. Currently the system is configured for operation with the Trimble AgGPS 132 with future development planned for additional receivers. About POS LV POS LV is a compact, fully integrated turnkey position and orientation system, using integrated inertial technology to generate stable, reliable and repeatable positioning solutions for land-based vehicle applications. The system’s integrated inertial technology provides continuous positioning data in areas with problematic GPS reception, such as in a dense urban environment or along tree lined streets. In addition to the more traditional applications, POS LV position and orientation information is now being used in robotic navigation systems, as seen in the company’s collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University in the DARPA Grand Challenge, where the POS LV was successfully integrated as part of the onboard navigation system. About Applanix Corporation Applanix, a Trimble Company (NASDAQ: TRMB), develops, manufactures, sells and supports products and solutions for Mobile Mapping and Positioning. Applanix’ Position and Orientation Systems ( POS) are used in a variety of applications, including road profiling, GIS data acquisition, aerial surveying and mapping, railroad track maintenance and seafloor mapping.
