May 13, 2004 Applanix to Launch its Next Generation POS AV at ASPRS in Denver
RICHMOND HILL, CANADA - Applanix announced today the launch of its next generation POS AV system (Position and Orientation System for Airborne Vehicles) at the upcoming American Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing (ASPRS) annual conference in Denver, Colorado, May 23-28. The Applanix POS AV version 5 is an integrated turnkey system designed for fast, accurate direct georeferencing of aerial imagery and airborne sensor data.
Joe Hutton, Director of Airborne Products at Applanix commented, "We are excited to be launching our next generation POS AV at this year's ASPRS. Being one of the industry's premier conferences, it will allow the aerial survey and remote sensing community to take a close-up look at our latest technology, and see the advantages of direct georeferencing." "With the introduction of version 5, we have incorporated several changes that focus on improving operational efficiency and system performance, such as enhanced error modeling, and improved GPS positioning using a Trimble receiver and 10 Hz raw observables for post-processing," Hutton explained. "The system has also been redesigned as a compact and light weight unit, yet strengthened overall, with exterior casings and connectors reinforced to better withstand the rigors of the airborne environment." Key attributes of the new system include, improved real-time operation, automatic redundant data logging, and enhanced positioning performance, a result of the latest in Trimble L1/L2 GPS receiver technology. In addition, POS AV version 5 has been configured to seamlessly integrate with the Track' Air Flight Management System, to provide an automated airborne mission control capability, designed to reduce the operational costs associated with aerial surveys. The POS AV / Track' Air combination streamlines the preparation and completion of airborne missions using an arrangement of specially developed software and hardware tools. ABOUT THE POS AV The Applanix POS AV is the leading integrated inertial position and orientation system specifically designed to provide direct georeferencing data for all types of airborne sensors. The system integrates precision GPS with inertial technology to provide real-time and post-processed information for aerial cameras, laser scanning, imaging scanners and synthetic aperture radar. The POSAV system generates high accuracy measurements of the airborne sensor's position and attitude. This allows for the rapid creation of digital maps, orthophotos, and digital terrain models, for a variety of aerial survey and remote sensing applications requiring geometrically corrected and geographically encoded data. Current users of existing POS AV systems can take advantage of the Applanix upgrade program for the new version 5, by contacting Applanix Sales personnel.
