Kingwood Forestry Services Inc. Chooses the Applanix DSS Digital Sensor System to Expand its Airborne Operational Capabilities

RICHMOND HILL, CANADA - Applanix announced today that Kingwood Forestry Services of Monticello, Arkansas, has purchased the latest version of its industry-leading DSS Digital Sensor System. The system will expand its aerial photography and GIS data acquisition capabilities for forest management.

Kingwood Forestry Services, a regional forestry consulting company, provides a complete line of resource management services to the forestry industry. In responding to the DSS purchase Glen Dabney, President of Kingwood Forestry, commented, "Within the forest resource industry, the market for aerial photographic products has changed dramatically, and today's forest managers are looking for digital imagery with higher resolution and better positional accuracies. By introducing the DSS into our aerial operations we can offer our customers exactly the products they require, such as precision color and CIR imagery, seamless georeferenced mosaics, and a product delivered on disk rather than traditional photographic film."

Recognized as an exciting development for the forest resource management industry, the DSS is a modular, compact and price-conscious technology that offers an entry-level alternative to large-format digital camera systems. The all-inclusive DSS system stores, handles, and processes data ready for use in a production environment, giving Kingwood Forestry the ability to generate digital terrain models and produce orthorectified imagery much more effectively. "The DSS has also given us the flexibility to broaden our client base to now include remote sensing applications for the agricultural sector, right-of-way firms and municipalities." Dabney concluded.

Pilot-operated, and easily accommodated on single-engine aircraft and helicopter platforms, the DSS system offers an increase in performance with a marked reduction in operating costs.
