September 14, 2000 Applanix announces Tightly-Coupled inertial/RTK-GPS software will be introduced with some land products
RICHMOND HILL , CANADA Applanix Corporation develops and manufactures integrated inertial/GPS position and orientation systems. The firm is a leader in its field and is dedicated to solid customer support for the products and services it provides. Established in 1991, Applanix Corporation has enjoyed steady, continuous growth. The firm has been named among the top 100 Canadian corporate growth/success stories by Profit magazine.
At the recent ION GPS 2000 Conference and Trade Show in Salt Lake City, Applanix announced that it will be introducing the use of Tightly-Coupled inertial/RTK-GPS software with some of the land products. Bruno Scherzinger heads up Research and Development at Applanix. In making the announcement he reported: "By introducing this technology to our land based Position Orientation Systems POS LV and POS LS, the capability of our products to provide continuous position and orientation solution through total and partial GPS outages will be significantly improved. Tightly-coupled inertial/RTK-GPS is particularly well-suited in maintaining accuracy longer through partial outages where there are only 2 or 3 satellites visible. The use of Tightly-coupled inertial/RTK integration allows integer RTK recovery in the 1 –5 second range following a complete outage – even with as few as 4 –5 GPS satellites. Tight integration is ideal for robust RTK-level positioning in adverse environments such as in urban canyons, under canopy and around construction sites. Applications that will benefit from using tightly-coupled POS systems include road surveying, machine control, seismic survey and the evolving world of intelligent transportation systems (ITS)." Bruno presented full paper on Tightly-Coupled inertial/RTK-GPS at the ION 2000. A copy of this is available on the Applanix web site – www.applanix.com.
